HOW DO I JOIN NERFA?
We are the Northeast Regional chapter of Folk Alliance International. If you are an FAI member and reside in the Northeast, you are automatically a member of NERFA. You do not have to be a member of FAI to come to the NERFA conference. However, if you are accepted as an official showcase artist at NERFA, you do need to become a member before attending and playing the conference. To become a member, visit the FAI Membership Page.
MUST I JOIN FOLK ALLIANCE international (FAI)?
We are here to promote Folk Alliance as a community. We hope that you will join and gain from becoming part of Folk Alliance International. We do require you to be a FAI member if you are playing an official showcase at the NERFA conference.
WHO NEEDS TO REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE?
Everyone must register to attend the conference – artists, panelists, family, media, etc. It is also advisable to register in advance so your information can be added to our program booklet and conference app. If you are an Official Showcase artist, you must register in advance, within two weeks of being accepted as a showcase artist.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
To register in advance and receive the best registration rates, register online. You can also register at the conference, but rates will be higher.
WHAT ARE THE FEES FOR REGISTRATION?
HOW DO I RESERVE A HOTEL ROOM?
In the past, rooms were reserved through the NERFA website. The process for reserving a hotel room is now done by directly contacting the hotel and rooms are charged per night, not per person. If you are sharing a hotel room with someone and would like to split the cost, you can pay at check-out with more than one credit card. For more information on lodging, please visit our lodging page.
CAN I VOLUNTEER?
Yes, we love volunteers! Volunteers are given the opportunity to receive a $15 registration credit for each hour of service, to be credited to you following the conference. On your conference registration form, please note that you would like to volunteer and our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you.
DO YOU HAVE A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM?
We do provide a limited number of scholarships through the Louis J. Meyers Scholarship Fund. If you are interested in applying for a conference registration scholarship, please contact us at email@example.com.
CAN I ADVERTISE IN THE PROGRAM BOOK OR PARTICIPATE IN OTHER SPONsORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES?
Yes, of course. Please visit our Sponsorships page for sponsorship opportunities. You do not need to be attending the conference in order to be a sponsor.
I’M ONLY COMING TO HANG OUT WITH MY FAMILY MEMBER, PARTNER, FRIEND, ETC., DO I NEED TO REGISTER?
Yes. Everyone needs to be registered.
WHAT MEALS ARE INCLUDED WITH REGISTRATION?
Thursday, Friday and Saturday night dinners are included in registration and are served just outside of the main ballroom. You may purchase additional meals (Friday breakfast, Saturday breakfast, and Sunday lunch) during the registration process. For more information on meals, please visit our meals page.
WHAT IS A FORMAL SHOWCASE AND HOW DO I GET ONE?
NERFA’s Formal Showcases are juried showcases. They take place on the Friday and Saturday nights of the conference in the ballroom of the hotel. Full sound system and lighting are provided. There are 7 chosen performers each night, 14 in total for the weekend. Each performer gets 15 minutes of playing time as well as a sound check the morning or afternoon of their slotted time. WHAT IS A semi-formal SHOWCASE AND HOW DO I GET ONE?
NERFA’s Semi-formal Showcases are juried showcases. They start immediately after the Formals on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Three showcases run simultaneously in hotel conference rooms. A step-up stage, smaller sound system and lighting systems are provided. There is no sound check for these showcases, only a line check. There are 15 artists each night, 30 total for the weekend. While the Semi-formal Showcases are being presented, no other showcasing or other events are allowed to occur in the hotel. Click here for more information on how to apply.
WHAT IS A GUERRILLA SHOWCASE AND HOW DO I HOST OR PLAY ONE?
After the Semi-formal Showcases are over, Guerrilla Showcases are presented by conference attendees in hotel rooms on a designated floor of the hotel. Showcases start at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night and at 11:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights after the Semi-formal Showcases. Hosts put together a lineup of artists they would like to present for the evening. They are completely unplugged – NO amplification of any kind is allowed in the Guerrilla rooms.
