Bob has been deeply involved with music since age six, starting with classical piano. He taught himself guitar when he entered college – then banjo – and finally autoharp which is now his main instrument. In 1960, Bob was cofounder of the Penn State Folklore Society which is still very active. He was a member of the BOD of PFS for fifteen years, spending one year as President of the Board. FAI was formed in his Philadelphia home and, along with his wife, Dianne Tankle, he helped form NERFA. After over seven decades, he has a wealth of knowledge about folk music and songs.
