Wanda Fischer has been in folk radio since 1975, first at WCUW in Worcester, MA and since 1982 at WAMC-FM/Northeast Public Radio in Albany, NY. She credits her folk roots to her father, who brought the music of his friends, the Carter Family, into the house when she was young. Born in Tennessee but raised in the Boston area, she began going to classic folk venues such as Club 47, the Sword in the Stone, Golden Vanity and The Unicorn in the 1960s and attended many folk festivals as well during that time. Folk Alliance International inducted her into its Folk DJ Hall of Fame in 2019. She’s also a passionate baseball fan and wrote a baseball-themed novel in 2017. She lives in Schenectady, NY with her husband Bill; they have two grown children and six grandchildren.
